There are a number of hiking companies on the island. They range from the very basic (where the guide will meet you at some per-arranged spot, ride in the back of your rental car and provide limited amenities), to the extravagant (where the guides carry everything and the lunch menu consists of numerous French words in an attempt to impress you).

The rainforest waterfall hikes have many stream crossings. Hawaiian Hiking Co. provides tabis, a special fiber-sole shoe designed for traction in the water. All guides are Hawaii State Certified , holding degrees in ornithology, biology, geology and Hawaiian history.
